Childhood in the Path of Typhoons
by: Cecilia M. Brainard

We all know that Philippines is prone to typhoons and other some calamities because it lies astride the typhoon belt. We, Filipinos are already used to this natural disasters yet we're not that prepared and educated enough to face this. A lot of typhoons already visited and entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and this means that many lives are already destroyed. Cecilia Brainard is a great writer here in the Philippines and one of her works is this, Childhood in the Path of Typhoons. The story tells us how typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest and deadliest typhoon that ever recorded in the Philippines. Many of our co-Filipinos died because of this. A lot of families become frustrated and devastated because of the loss. Also the story will show us how unprepared the Philippine officials at that moment. But when we take a deeper look at the scenario the childrens are the one who are really affected that time. Imagine at a young age they already witnessed and experienced how great and deadly when our mother earth revenge and bring back what we've done. They already saw how their families and houses destroyed by the calamity yet nothing they can do in order to save them. In the story , the character narrated the actions when a storm is coming. For the signal no.1  it meant rain and some wind yet the students still need to go to their classes. Signal no.2 states that it meant a stronger rain and wind. Students were already excused from their classes. In order for us to be safe enough the literature stated that we should listen to the announcements given by our government. In signal nos.3 and 4 should stay indoors and avoid to go outdoors because it meant the rain and wind were very powerful and deadly. Many infrastructures will be destroy. Streets would possibly flood. Trees can be broke. It can also be uprooted. Many things will fly and its very dangerous because corrugated metal roofings could come loose. It will run a thousand of people who died because of this typhoon. Also it is just a ironic scenery wherein evacuation centers should be the safe place for the affected families yet many people died there.

All in all I can say that this literary work is pure facts because of the factual statements stated. The author was surely have a in-depth research of this topic.
